Introduction: Do we allow the weak to control us? We can decide to be influenced properly, or to not be influenced properly. We are responsible to be sure we remain in the divine system, or disaster will come. This includes the weak controlling the strong. Those with whom we associate are either believers, or they are not. If they are not, they must see Christ in us, but this remains our choice. Jezebel was a weak person, who easily controlled someone else.

"Results of Redemption" – Ephesians 5:16 – Lesson 230

Introduction: Etymology is the method to find the true meaning of a specific word; the word in this case is "Redemption". "Redeem is used in verses 15 and 16 of Ephesians 5.

Redemption Outline
Ephesians 5:16 Greek/Literal Translation
Redeeming the time (Exzagorazo) indicates continuous action in the present tense; we are responsible on a continuous basis of purchasing, procuring, redeeming the time (Kairos). We're commanded to take advantage of every moment of our lives in the Church Age (Pentecost to Rapture) to grow in God's grace. Redeeming is in the middle voice, meaning that if we do this, it is to our advantage, but if we do not, it is to our disadvantage!
Redemption in the Greek
Ephesians 5:16 / Ephesians 5:17 / Ephesians 5:18
Verse 18 is a command: "Be ye not drunk with wine..."
Passive voice - we're not to be the recipients of drunkenness, but...
P.P.Imp of Pleroo - "... be filled with the [Holy] Spirit."
Present Tense, continuous action, keep doing this,
Passive Voice - Be recipients of the Holy Spirit;
Imperative Mood - THIS IS A COMMAND.
Redemption is found in the Book of Job (Job 19 25-27).
Look again at Ephesians 5:17.
Thoughts in preparation for next Sunday's message - "Abstain from Evil":
You can confess sin and have it removed, but you cannot confess evil
thinking and have it removed. This requires a change in thinking over time.
The only way to remove evil thinking is - God's Way - to replace it with
God's Thinking!
